Control Unleashed©, developed by Leslie McDevitt, MA, CDBC, is a structured framework that uses classical and operant conditioning through thoughtfully designed training games. These exercises help dogs build confidence, self-regulation, and trust in their environment.
By incorporating predictability, choice, and positive reinforcement, Control Unleashed strengthens the relationship between dog and handler. The program emphasizes staying under threshold—ensuring the dog feels safe enough to learn—and prioritizes clear communication, consent, and engagement.
Originally designed to support agility dogs, Control Unleashed has since become a powerful tool for behavior modification, especially for dogs exhibiting fear, reactivity, or frustration. That said, its benefits extend to all dogs—offering structure, empowerment, and joy in the training process.
Control Unleashed Foundations is great for dogs of all ages and skills, and helpful for dogs who:
Have trouble focusing in stimulating environments
Struggle with over-arousal (jumping up, leash-biting, nipping, etc.)
Display reactive, fearful, anxious or shy behavior
React to other dogs, react to people, or react to environmental triggers, such as cars, trucks, or bikes

Level 2 is designed for teams who have completed our Level 1 Control Unleashed class. In this next step, we’ll introduce new exercises that build on your existing skills—adding a bit more complexity while still keeping things upbeat, positive, and fun for both you and your dog. These activities will continue to support your dog’s focus and emotional regulation.
